From Rogier Bruggeman, CEO GuldenTrader.com:
2018, what a crap year!
Early January, 2018 promised a good year for cryptocurrencies. Sales where high and trade volume was through the roof. It did not stay that way, each next month showed lower volume and a drastic decrease in price.
For Guldentrader it has been difficult aswell. As you all know, the exchange is mainly funded by sales made through the GT site and sales by invoice. Because of fewer sales, we have been losing money. On top of that, the last 4 months there have been al lot of attacks on both the exchange and the GT site. Nobody got through but it costs many hours and a lot of money to investigate and stop them. On average we have about 10 bad attacks a day and dozens of smaller ones.
Progress is going slow. Here are a few reasons.
I am the main reason things are going slow. Setting up, building and securing an exchange is not an easy job. It takes a lot of time and I often change my mind on how to setup and secure things. Right now I can hardly work because of a broken ankle which, makes it impossible to sit at a desk.
Another reason in money, in October we had 100 times fewer sales then in January. All the help I hired has now been stopped to save money. To pay myself I am still relying on savings and the odd job here and there.
Attacks are getting worse every month. In September and October on average I spent 3 to 4 hours every day, 7 days a week, analysing attacks and securing servers and code.
There was one attack that lasted for more then 3 weeks. It was very sophisticated and too slow to be stopped by automated security. Although I learned a lot and we keep getting more secure, all planning went out the window. As well as sleep and some very bad profanities.
Our payment provider droppped a bomb by demanding the GT site had full KYC by October 1st. This meant rebuilding the GT site and more delays. But it had to be done.
It took a few hundred hours to rebuild the site and prepare for future additions but we got it live before october 1st.
Another reason is our wish to add new coins and tokens paired with EUR and NLG. Besides market basics, all coins and tokens work a little different and sometimes a lot different. Gulden is easy and stable compared to most. Here are the ones that will be added in the next months:
There are more to come but these first. Most is build and set up. The wait is for me to be happy with performance, security and stability. Gas calculation on ETH for instance, I am still not happy with.
As plans for 2018 seem to take far longer then anticipated, plans for 2019 will be very simple.
-Add more coins/tokens, a minimum of 6 preferably high volume coins/tokens.
-Start a marketing campaign every 2-3 months.
-Add a blog and use that blog to keep people informed
-Add more order types like stop and market order
